THE PAW CATALOG
Origin: Brazil
The breed comes from Brazil and belongs to the large tracking hounds. FCI finally recognized it in 1967. Dogs are created for long work on the trail, so their endurance and sense of smell are the main breed traits.
Brazilian trail dog - a large Brazilian hound for trail work. Friendly to the family, hardy and persistent on the smell. Needs a spacious yard, lots of movement and a reliable call.
It is more suitable for a country house with a strong fence and people who walk a lot. Without movement and company, the hound gets bored and vocalizes loudly. After sensing the smell, he can follow the trail.
A healthy adult dog needs long walks, runs and sniffing every day. Free running is possible only in the fenced area. The load of puppies and elderly dogs is adjusted with the veterinarian.
Willing to work, but independent on the trail. Olfactory games, valuable treats and short activities work. Calling is practiced on a long leash, and free running is allowed only in a safe area.
The short coat is combed approximately once a week, and more often during shedding. After walks, the skin, paws and ears are examined, claws are regularly trimmed and teeth are brushed.
Usually friendly, but big and energetic. An adult monitors the contact, and the rules of a calm game are explained to the child.
With dogs, the "Brazilian tracking dog" usually gets along thanks to her pack experience, and small animals are introduced gradually: a chasing instinct is possible.
