THE PAW CATALOG
Origin: Argentina
The breed was bred in the 1920s by the Argentine doctor Antonio Nories Martinez. He crossed the long-lost Cordovan fighting dog with mastiffs, boxers, pointers, bull terriers and other breeds. Meta is a strong boar and cougar hunter who remains loyal and protective of his family. Some countries have restrictions on keeping the breed, so it's a good idea to check local regulations before buying.
Dogo Argentino is a large, strong white athlete, bred to hunt large animals. Devoted to her family, protective and brave, but wary of outsiders. Requires an experienced owner, early socialization, heavy daily loads and protection of white skin from the sun.

Suitable for people with experience who walk and exercise with their dog for a long time every day. The weight is usually 35-45 kg or more, so you need space and a strong fence. Without loads and clear rules, the dog can become destructive. You should not leave her alone for a long time.
A healthy adult dog needs intense exercise every day: long walks, hikes, games, mental tasks. Without it, it is boring and destructive. The load of puppies and elderly dogs is adjusted with the veterinarian.
Smart and willing to work, but strong-willed. Positive reinforcement training and early socialization are essential. Start from day one: leash control, calling, calm behavior. Rough methods give the opposite result.
The short smooth white coat is combed about once a week. White skin without pigment burns easily, so in the summer, exposure to the sun is limited. Claws are regularly trimmed, teeth and ears are cleaned.
He is gentle with his family, but big and strong, so contact with children takes place only under the supervision of an adult. The rules of quiet play are explained to the child, and the dog is given a place to rest.
The breed has strong hunting and protective instincts, so it needs early socialization and control with other dogs and small animals. The contact is evaluated individually.
Estimates help compare breeds. For zooaggression, 5/5 means less tendency to aggression towards dogs. The behavior and health of a particular dog depend on many factors.
High score: The breed is usually very close to the family. The actual behavior depends on the socialization and experience of the particular dog.
High score: The dog is intelligent and willing to learn, but strong-willed, so experience and consistency are required.
Average score: contact with other dogs and small animals is assessed individually through hunting and protective instincts.
There is no comparative survival assessment of the Dogo Argentino breed in the British cohort. The absence of said risk does not prove the absence of hereditary diseases, so screening of parents is important.
Medium-high rating: The coat is combed about once a week, but the skin is protected from the sun.
Breed screening: congenital deafness (according to some data, about a tenth of dogs), hip dysplasia and heart disease are described for the breed. Ask for BAER hearing test results, hip and heart evaluations from both parents.
Musculoskeletal system: a large breed needs controlled growth. Lameness, pain, or reluctance to move require a veterinary examination. Excess weight is not allowed.
The preventive examination includes evaluation of the eyes, heart and skin. White skin is prone to sunburn and irritation, so the condition of the skin is examined regularly.
