History of the Hamiltonstevare breed

Origin: Sweden

The breed was created by Count Adolf Patrick Hamilton, a cavalry officer and the first president of the Swedish Kennel Club. German hounds, English foxhounds and harriers are called its origins. At first, hounds were called Swedish, and from 1921 - in honor of Hamilton, the FCI recognized them in 1955. It is rare outside of Scandinavia. In Swedish folklore, such a dog helps the gnome Tomte.

The Hamiltonstevare is a medium-sized Swedish hound with a short, dense tricolor coat. Males reach 53-61 cm, females 49-57 cm. Friendly, devoted to the family, but stubborn and with a strong hunting instinct. Needs daily movement, olfactory work and reliable fencing.
