THE PAW CATALOG
Origin: Peru
The origin is unknown: the breed is sometimes associated with Chinese immigrants to Peru, then with African nomads or migrations from Asia through Beringia. Hairless dogs are depicted on pre-infantry pottery around 300 BC. - 1400 AD e. (Vikus, Mochika, Chankai, Chimu cultures). According to tradition, copper-colored hairless puppies were considered sacred, they were protected by the chief and raised in palaces as "the child of the Sun god." In cold regions, dogs warmed beds and, according to belief, alleviated rheumatism: "a living heater."
The Peruvian hairless dog is an ancient breed in three sizes: small (25-40 cm), medium (40-50 cm) and large (50-65 cm), hairless or with short smooth hair. Noble, devoted to his family, a watchful watchman, wary of strangers. Needs skin care, protection from cold and sun.

Suitable for an apartment: easy to keep clean. Loves warmth and people, needs protection from the cold, especially small dogs, and from the sun.
About 20 minutes of activity every day is enough: walks and games. In winter, clothes are mandatory.
Can be timid at first and need time to trust new people and places. You should approach slowly, without sudden movements. Classes are soft, with a reward. Aggression and excessive timidity in the breed are undesirable.
A hairless dog is easy to keep clean: it is washed with a sponge, and from time to time the skin is washed so that the pores are not clogged. Children's cleaners and lotions without lanolin are used. Some dogs are prone to blackheads or comedones, dry skin is moisturized, olive, vegetable or coconut oil is suitable for many. The edges of the ears can dry out and crack. Light-colored dogs need protection from the sun.
Devoted to family, but can be distrustful of strangers. Contacts with children are supervised.
Generally gets along with other animals during socialization.
Estimates help compare breeds. For zooaggression, 5/5 means less tendency to aggression towards dogs. The behavior and health of a particular dog depend on many factors.

There is no comparable survival estimate for the breed in the British cohort used. The absence of the mentioned risk does not prove the absence of hereditary diseases.
High score: wool is minimal, but the skin needs regular care.
Breed Screening: The hairless gene is associated with an incomplete set of teeth, with many dogs missing parts of their molars and premolars. Ask the breeder for documented results of examinations and information about the teeth.
Locomotor system: for the "Peruvian Hairless Dog" breed, the load is selected according to age and condition. Limping, pain or reluctance to move is a reason to consult a veterinarian.
Eyes and heart are checked during routine examinations. The breed is very sensitive to toxins: due to the small amount of fat, insecticides are absorbed quickly and can damage the nervous and digestive systems, so antiparasitic agents are selected only with a veterinarian.
