THE PAW CATALOG
Origin: Poland
The breed lived for centuries in the Polish Tatra Mountains, where it protected flocks from predators. The origin is not finally clarified: mastiff-like dogs are called among the possible ancestors. In addition to herds, such dogs were kept to protect property. In the FCI classification, it belongs to group 1, herding dog.
The Polish Tatra Sheepdog is a large (60-70 cm) white mountain herding dog with a thick double coat. Calm, alert and brave, gentle in the family, wary of strangers. Needs a spacious fenced yard, early education and seasonal grooming.

This is a dog for a private house with a reliable fence, not for a cramped apartment. He likes to be with his family, but by nature he is a watchman and an independent defender of the territory.
A lot of energy: regular walks and space to move in a fenced area are required.
Intelligent and independent, does not like monotonous teams. Early socialization, consistency and patience are required. You cannot convince a dog with such force.
Dense wool with a harder, slightly greasy undercoat repels water and dirt, so it does not need daily maintenance. Combing once or twice a week is enough, and during the annual molting, the undercoat is combed more often. Claws are trimmed, ears are examined.
He is usually gentle and patient with the children of his family. Due to the size and strength, games with babies are controlled, and strangers' children should be introduced gradually.
He usually gets along peacefully with pets that he has known since childhood. He can be wary and territorial towards unfamiliar dogs.
Estimates help compare breeds. For zooaggression, 5/5 means less tendency to aggression towards dogs. The behavior and health of a particular dog depend on many factors.

Breed screening: there are few descriptions of hereditary diseases of the "Polish Tatra Sheepdog" breed. Ask the breeder for the written results of the parents' examinations and the current requirements of the club.
Musculoskeletal system: the growth and load of the Polish Tatra Sheepdog breed are coordinated with its age. If lameness or pain occurs, a veterinary examination is required.
The condition of the eyes and heart is included in the routine examination. The frequency of special examinations is determined according to the recommendations of the club and the veterinarian. It is useful to keep the results in the veterinary passport.
