THE PAW CATALOG
Origin: France
It originates from the Pont-Audeme region in France, where it was formed in the 19th century. The exact origin is unknown: it is possible that Irish and English water spaniels are involved. After the Second World War, the population dwindled, so other breeds were added to the breeding, including Irish Water Spaniels. The breed club was merged with the Picardy Spaniel Club in 1980.
The Pont-Audemars Spaniel is a rare French hunting spaniel of medium size (approx. 51-58 cm, 20-27 kg) with a long curly coat and a bang of tight curls on the head. Cheerful, gentle and playful, loves water and fetching. Needs a lot of movement and regular care for curly hair and ears.

Suitable for active families with a house where there is room for movement, and even better - water nearby. It requires both physical exertion and mental tasks.
High: daily walks, running, swimming, fetching and mind games.
Willing to learn, cheerful and a little funny. Various tasks are required, with a reward. The sense of smell and the hunting instinct must be taken into account when walking.
The curly coat is brushed regularly to prevent tangles and washed with a mild shampoo when it gets dirty. Long ears are prone to infections, so they are often inspected and cleaned. Claws are trimmed, teeth are cleaned.
Gentle and friendly, gets along well with children. Games with toddlers are supervised due to energy.
Usually friendly, but the hunting instinct is preserved, so small animals can be prey.
Estimates help compare breeds. For zooaggression, 5/5 means less tendency to aggression towards dogs. The behavior and health of a particular dog depend on many factors.
High score: gentle and cheerful companion. Behavior depends on upbringing.
High score: eager to learn.
Average score: friendly, but the hunting instinct remains.
There is no comparable survival estimate for the breed in the British cohort used. The absence of the mentioned risk does not prove the absence of hereditary diseases.
Average score: curly coat and ears need regular grooming.
Pedigree screening: hyperuricosuria predisposing to urolithiasis has been described. Ask the breeder for the genetic test results of both parents.
Musculoskeletal system: the growth and load of the Pont-Audemer spaniel dog is adjusted to its age. If lameness or pain occurs, a veterinary examination is required.
Eyes and heart are checked during routine examinations. The risk of stomach bloating is important for the breed, so feed in several small portions, use a slow bowl and do not load the dog immediately before or after meals.
