History of the Ukrainian Carpathian Hound breed
Origin: Ukraine, Carpathians
The breed was formed in the Ukrainian Carpathians and on adjacent lands. The first mentions and photographic evidence of hunting with such dogs date back to the beginning of the 20th century. They were kept and bred for hunting ungulates and other animals in the mountainous area. Possible historical admixtures of other hounds are allowed, but there is no proven set of parent breeds. The Kennel Union of Ukraine approved the standard in 2021; the breed is nationally recognized, not FCI.
The Ukrainian Carpathian Hound is a hardy hunting dog with a distinctive voice and a strong interest in scent trails. Requires an experienced guide, safe walks and activities that involve the sense of smell.

Life is nearby
This is a working hound with a strong sense of smell. He needs movement, controlled search tasks and a reliable fence; in an open area, it is impossible to do without the control of the conductor.
Walks
Regular activity and olfactory work are required. The volume of the load depends on the age, health and lifestyle of the dog.
Training
They develop recall, calm work on a leash and cooperation with a person. They train consistently, without punishment for their natural interest in the trail.
Care
After walks in the forest, paws, ears and skin are examined, checked for ticks. Dogs maintain proper physical form.
Children
Contacts with children take place under the supervision of adults; the dog's working temperament is taken into account in everyday life.
Other animals
The hunting instinct requires gradual familiarization and control around small animals.
